My 3 Day Juice Cleanse: Pre-Cleanse Tips

Learning Goal: You will learn several ways to prepare for a juice cleanse, to ensure that sure you get the greatest benefit

I never actually bought anything at Farmer’s Market until this past weekend.  Next time I need to bring my camera so I can take pictures of the beautiful produce.

It was so refreshing to be able to talk to the farmers and to ask questions about how the food is grown, processed, and shipped.  I learned a lot about what I was eating, and even some new foods.

At my farmers market there was a cold pressed juice stand called La Vie

The juices were full of awesome stuff, things that I probably would not have the time or patience to juice myself.  Plus their names were really awesome…yeah I’m a sucker for cute things

I know there are a lot of psychological and health benefits to doing a vegetable and fruit juice cleanse, so I have attempted to do a cleanse several times before, but I kept running into the same problems.

Making juices takes time.  Cleaning up after making juices takes time.  I rarely have the time to make and clean all the juices, especially when I was teaching.

I know it is possible to do it on my own with proper planning, but I decided it was worth dropping some dollars to try this out without the added stress, considering not eating will definitely make me a little stressed since it is such a big part of my life.

I think that is actually one main reason why I am doing it.  To break the cycle of centering my whole day around eating.

How To Prepare For a Juice Cleanse

Juice cleanses can be a shock to your system.  Your body may not be use to fiber, electrolytes, and vitamins.  The dose makes the poison, and sometimes your body may reject the vitamins.  It is normal to have symptoms like constipation or diarrhea, headaches, and fatigue when doing a juice cleanse.  Part of that can also be your body craving the foods and chemicals you are programmed to be addicted to like caffeine, salt, sugar, and fats.

Here are some tips for preparing for a juice cleanse to get the most out of your cleanse

3-7 Days Before Your Cleanse:

  • Talk to your doctor to make sure you do not have any health issues that may worsen from a juice cleanse
  • Drink lots of water
  •  Slowly remove added sugar, meat, dairy, and refined and processed carbohydrates from your diet.
    • It is easier to slowly taper off these things than go cold turkey
  • Slowly reduce your caffeine intake.  Try switching to decaffeinated or herbal teas.
  • Eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Donate/Throw Away/ Give Away Temptations like chocolate covered anything
  • Clear out your social calendar or find a cleanse buddy
    • It is a lot harder to stick to your cleanse when you have plans to eat with others.
    • Alternatively it is much easier to stick to something when you have someone who can encourage you or who is going through the same thing
  • Let friends and family know so they know not to tempt you and so they can provide support
  • Join an online support group like Just On Juice to get more tips, advice, and encouragement
  • Stock up on healthy snacks like raw nuts, fruits, and veggies
    • No way I am not going to chew something for three days.  Plan on having really small snacks, for example: 12 almonds, a small apple, or a carrot, or spinach with lemon and a tiny bit of olive oil
  • Plan your exercise schedule
    • Stick to gentle exercises like yoga, stretching, and long walks during a cleanse
  • Schedule yourself a massage
    • You deserve it, and it can help you heal
  • Develop a Mediation Practice
    • This can help you get in touch with what your body needs and can help you stay focused your temporary change in diet
  • Start a Journal
